Introduction

DayWise (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is developed and operated by a sole developer based in South Africa. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the DayWise mobile application and website (collectively, the “Service”).

We take your privacy seriously. Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please stop using the Service.

Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

• Account information: Email address and password when you register.
• Task and scheduling data: Tasks, priorities, deadlines, durations, and notes you create within the app.
• Google Calendar data: If you connect Google Calendar, we access your calendar events (read-only) to schedule tasks around them. We do not store your calendar events on our servers beyond what is necessary to generate your schedule.
• Settings and preferences: Your scheduling preferences, energy patterns, and app configuration.

Information collected automatically

• Usage analytics: We use PostHog to collect anonymised analytics about how features are used (e.g., which screens are visited, feature interaction counts). This data does not include the content of your tasks.
• Crash reports: We use Sentry to collect error and crash data to improve app stability. Crash reports may include device type, OS version, and app state at the time of the crash.
• Device information: Device type, operating system version, and app version.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and operate the DayWise Service
• Run AI scheduling algorithms to build your daily plan
• Sync your data across your devices
• Send transactional notifications (e.g., reminders you have configured)
• Improve the Service based on anonymised usage patterns
• Respond to your support enquiries
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your task content for advertising.

AI Scheduling and Data Processing

DayWise uses third-party AI services (including OpenAI) to process your task data and generate scheduling suggestions. When you request an AI-generated schedule, relevant task information (titles, priorities, estimated durations, and available time slots) is sent to these services. This data is processed transiently and is not used to train third-party models under our agreements.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, with servers located in the United States (AWS). We implement industry-standard security measures including:

• Encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest
• Row-level security policies on all database tables
• Regular security reviews

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with the following third-party services:

• Google Calendar API — for calendar integration (subject to Google's Privacy Policy)
• Supabase — database and authentication infrastructure
• RevenueCat — in-app purchase and subscription management
• OpenAI — AI scheduling capabilities
• PostHog — anonymised product analytics
• Sentry — error monitoring

Your Rights (POPIA Compliance)

As a South African developer, we comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). If you are located in South Africa or any other jurisdiction with applicable data protection laws, you have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data. You can initiate this directly from the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account).
• Objection: Object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.
• Portability: Request a copy of your data in a portable format.

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Children's Privacy

DayWise is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly.

International Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than South Africa, including the United States. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers in accordance with POPIA and applicable data protection laws.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the effective date above and, where appropriate, notifying you via email or in-app notice. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
